Coventry City announce record signing

Coventry City have completed the record signing of Ghana midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi from FC Nordsjaelland, paying an initial €27 million that could rise to €30 million with add‑ons. The fee is the largest in Coventry’s history and the biggest ever received by a Scandinavian club, surpassing Nordsjaelland’s sale of Ernest Nuamah in 2023. Yirenkyi, 20, arrives on a long‑term deal and will join Frank Lampard’s squad ahead of the club’s Premier League return.

A product of the Right to Dream Academy, he made 56 senior appearances in Denmark and was named Superliga Young Player of the Year for 2025/26. Lampard personally pushed for the transfer, with reports suggesting Yirenkyi chose Coventry for a guaranteed central role. The midfielder impressed internationally this summer, scoring twice at the 2026 World Cup as Ghana reached the round of 32. He becomes Coventry’s fourth record signing of the window, reinforcing their ambitious plans for the new season.
