Eintracht end Riera tenure after missing out on Europe

Eintracht Frankfurt have parted ways with Albert Riera after only three and a half months in charge, confirming the decision a day after their season ended with a 2‑2 draw against Stuttgart. The move had been expected, as the Spaniard never gained full backing within the club and oversaw Eintracht’s first failure to qualify for European competition in six years. Sporting director Markus Krösche had repeatedly avoided committing to Riera’s future, and the coach’s position weakened steadily after taking over from Dino Toppmöller on February first.

Krösche said the decision followed “intensive discussions,” praising Riera’s meticulous work while acknowledging the club’s desire to pursue a different path next season. Riera accepted responsibility for the team’s results, stating that his focus had always been on improving performances. Despite providing what the club described as valuable input, the brief tenure ends with Eintracht seeking a reset ahead of a crucial summer.
