Mourinho eyes Hjulmand as first signing for Real Madrid return

Jose Mourinho’s return to Real Madrid appears imminent, and Spanish outlet COPE claims the Portuguese coach already has a preferred signing in mind: Sporting CP midfielder Morten Hjulmand. With multiple reports indicating that Mourinho’s deal is finalised and awaiting official confirmation, attention has shifted to the squad he hopes to build for the 2026‑27 season. According to the report, Mourinho has specifically requested the 26‑year‑old Dane, whom he faced in several Benfica‑Sporting derbies and considers an ideal fit for Madrid’s midfield.

Hjulmand has become one of the standout performers in Portugal since joining Sporting in 2024, contributing three goals and five assists last season. Under contract until 2028, he is valued at around €50 million, a fee well within Madrid’s financial reach. However, Mourinho’s arrival is expected to trigger significant investment as the club prepares to reshape the squad around his demands and launch a new era at the Bernabéu.
