Opta data reveals the strongest and weakest groups at the 2026 World Cup

The 2026 World Cup features twelve groups of varying difficulty, and Opta’s power rankings offer a statistical measure of each group’s overall strength. Using a scale from zero to one hundred, the data identifies Group I as the strongest, with an average score of 81.8. France, ranked second globally, lead a quartet that also includes Senegal and Norway, making it the only group containing three teams inside the world’s top twenty‑five. Group J follows, featuring Colombia and Portugal, both ranked inside the global top ten.

Group D also stands out for its balance, as Turkey, Australia, Paraguay and the United States all sit within the top fifty. At the opposite end, Group B is considered the weakest, with an average strength of 70.9 and no team ranked inside the top sixteen. Opta also highlights large internal gaps, such as Brazil versus Haiti in Group C and Germany versus Curaçao in Group E, underscoring significant disparities.
