Lyon’s 3-1 Ligue 1 win over Monaco

Wissam Ben Yedder was tackled by Anthony Lopes just before kickoff, and the Monaco attacker converted the ensuing penalty kick at the Groupama Stadium by sending Lopes the wrong way. However, Lyon rallied and had multiple opportunities to tie the score before Alexandre Lacazette's goal from Bradley Barcola's cutback, seven minutes before halftime, gave them the advantage. Alexander Nubel stopped a leaping header from Lacazette after the interval, but the Monaco goalie could only deflect Rayan Cherki's shot, with Maxence Caqueret scoring the rebound in the 57th minute.

Twelve minutes from the end, Cherki scored his own goal after cutting in from the right and beating Nubel with a shot. Monaco is no longer able to reach third-placed Marseille. Despite having played a game extra, Lyon is still in seventh place and is only one point behind Lille in fifth. On Saturday, Marseille plays Lille.
