Malacia joins FC Cincinnati

Former Manchester United defender Tyrell Malacia has signed a one‑year contract with MLS side FC Cincinnati, the club announced. General manager Chris Albright praised the 27‑year‑old’s experience and mentality, highlighting his quality in possession, defensive awareness and team‑first approach. Malacia left United last summer when his contract expired, ending a spell that began with his €15 million move from Feyenoord in 2022. He played 39 matches in his debut season but suffered a severe knee injury in 2023, leading to a 500‑day absence and limiting him to just 12 further appearances.

Despite returning to the pitch, he was unable to reclaim a regular role in Erik ten Hag’s squad. Cincinnati, currently ninth in the Eastern Conference with 32 points from 24 games, hope Malacia can strengthen their defensive options as they push for playoff contention. The move offers the Dutch full‑back a fresh start after a difficult period in Manchester.
