On Saturday, Manchester United defeated Nottingham Forest 3-2 after giving up twice in the first four minutes. After losing 2-0 to Tottenham the previous Saturday, United was hoping to get their season going. However, they could not have started much worse at Old Trafford. After 90 seconds, Taiwo Awoniyi broke free from a United corner and scored for the fifth time in a row. Willy Boly then scored from a free kick by Morgan Gibbs-White when the clock read just three minutes and 45 seconds.
Despite being outplayed by Wolves, United managed to defeat them 1-0 in their season opener to allay fears that they would contend for the league crown for the first time in ten years. However, they fought back to earn a crucial three points in an exciting manner with goals from Cristian Eriksen, Casemiro and Fernandes.
