Medeama fall late as Mazembe snatch first‑leg advantage in Champions’

Medeama suffered a narrow 1‑0 defeat to TP Mazembe in the first leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round on Sunday at the TnA Stadium in Tarkwa. The Ghanaian champions matched the five‑time African titleholders for most of the contest and appeared set for a goalless draw before conceding late. Mazembe created the first clear chance when Chadrack Bingi‑Belo headed straight at Felix Kyei, while Medeama responded through Dominic Amponsah, who was denied by Marc Diouf.

Kyei produced another key save before half‑time to stop Josue Kazema, and Medeama pushed again after the break, with Emmanuel Annor forcing Diouf into a crucial stop in the 64th minute. However, Mazembe struck in the 87th minute as substitute Lise Ntumba Nyembo finished a swift counter‑attack. Medeama pressed for an equaliser but could not break through, leaving them needing to overturn the deficit in next week’s second leg in Lubumbashi.
