Muñoz fires Colombia into the last 16

Colombia secured their place in the World Cup knockout rounds with a hard‑earned 1–0 victory over DR Congo, finally breaking the deadlock through Daniel Muñoz’s deflected strike in the 76th minute. Backed by a vibrant sea of yellow in Guadalajara, Néstor Lorenzo’s side dominated the early exchanges, repeatedly testing Lionel Mpasi. Muñoz missed an early chance, had another effort ruled out for offside, and James Rodríguez forced a superb save as Colombia pushed forward with pace and imagination.

Mpasi kept DR Congo alive with several sharp stops, including a brilliant leg save from Luis Díaz shortly after the restart. The African side grew braver as Colombia’s intensity dipped, and Camilo Vargas was called into action late on to deny Nathanael Mbuku.

Muñoz’s decisive finish ultimately settled the contest, lifting Colombia to six points ahead of their final group match against Portugal. DR Congo, still winless, retain a slim chance of advancing in their first World Cup since 1974.
