Newcastle United’s 3-1 victory over Southampton

Newcastle was hoping for their third straight win as they welcomed Southampton to St James' Park after easily defeating Tottenham Hotspur and Everton in their previous two games. However, the first half did not go as planned, as Stuart Armstrong's goal in the 41st minute gave the Saints a slim lead going into halftime. Within nine minutes of the game's restart, Wilson, who had been called from the bench during the half, managed to bring it back to even.

Theo Walcott's own goal gave the Magpies the lead in the 79th minute, and Wilson added his second goal of the game to seal the victory. Wilson has scored eight goals in the Premier League so far in April, including five goals in his past three outings. The England international so broke the previous mark for the most Premier League goals scored by a Newcastle player in a single month.
