Spain push to extend de la Fuente’s contract beyond 2030

Spain are moving to secure Luis de la Fuente’s future well past Euro 2028, with federation president Rafael Louzán confirming that work is already underway to extend the coach’s contract until 2030 — and potentially beyond. Speaking to RNE, Louzán said de la Fuente has “earned” a long‑term renewal after guiding Spain to their second World Cup title, defeating Argentina in the 2026 final.

The current deal runs through the 2028 European Championship, but the RFEF intends to keep continuity on the bench for both Euro 2028 and the 2030 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by Spain, Portugal and Morocco. Louzán praised de la Fuente as the most successful coach across Spain’s national‑team structure, citing his humility and work ethic as key to the country’s recent triumphs.

He also insisted the centenary World Cup final should be played in Spain, calling it the only logical choice for the tournament’s showpiece match.
