Celtics formally sign young guard

According to Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe, Boston and the former Toronto Raptors guard reached a two-year agreement on July 3 with a club option for the final year. Banton travelled to Las Vegas to play for the Celtics in the NBA 2K24 Summer League. On his Instagram story, he posted a celebration of his signing.

Banton played in two games, scoring 15 points per 28.6 minutes on average. In addition, he contributed six rebounds and four assists per game. The Massachusetts-born 23-year-old played basketball for his high school team before deciding to go for Western Kentucky rather than UMass. He was selected by the Raptors in the second round of the 2021 NBA Draught, and he will attempt to contend with Jordan Walsh, a rookie from Boston, for a position in the rotation.
