Jarred Vanderbilt has agreed to a four-year, $48 million contract extension with the Lakers. The team has secured the defensive-minded forward only a few weeks before training camp begins. The new deal also includes a player option for the fourth season. Vanderbilt was acquired from the Utah Jazz near the trade deadline last season by the Lakers and he played an important role in Laker’s late-season journey from the play-in tournament to the Western Conference finals.
After joining the Lakers, Vanderbilt averaged 7.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 1.2 steals in 26 games in which he started 24 games, defending mostly against the opposition team's most dangerous offensive threat. The 6-foot-8, 214-pound big man joins Anthony Davis, Austin Reaves, D'Angelo Russell, and Rui Hachimura as the sixth member of last season's Lakers squad to sign a multiyear agreement this summer.
