Washington traded Russell Westbrook to Lakers last week itself and went on to priorities the signing of point guard Spencer Dinwiddie from free agency. Wizards are now close to inking a deal as they attempt to improve their starting lineup. The signing was delayed earlier as it needs to be a sign-and-trade as Wizards do not have enough salary cap to sign Dinwiddie outright. Wizards would have to sell players to Nets as Dinwiddle is expected to cost $20 million per season.
The Point guard is coming back from a break after he underwent surgery on his partially torn ACL in January. In 2019-2020 he averaged about 20.6 points and 6.8 assists per game, the 28-year-old is known for his defensive skills and was a key part of the Nets team.
