Joe Root steers fire to confident victory

Joe Root’s unbeaten 58 anchored Welsh Fire’s successful pursuit of 138, securing a much‑needed win and handing Birmingham Phoenix their third straight defeat in the Men’s Hundred. Root combined with Phil Salt in a brisk opening partnership that immediately put Fire ahead of the rate, with Salt smashing four sixes before falling for 46 to Mitchell Owen.

Phoenix had earlier struggled to build momentum after choosing to bat. Joe Clarke’s 35 and Donovan Ferreira’s 23 were the only significant contributions as disciplined bowling, led by Lockie Ferguson’s 2 for 20, restricted them to 137. Two run‑outs further stalled their progress, while Marco Jansen and Sam Cook chipped in with key breakthroughs.
