Pakistan have announced a 14-member squad for the ICC Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy, with wicketkeeper-batter Muneeba Ali taking over as captain in the absence of Fatima Sana.
Muneeba has previously led Pakistan in four T20Is and one ODI and will now guide the side while Sana prepares for her first season in Australia’s Women’s Big Bash League. Ayesha Zafar has been appointed vice-captain.
The batting group includes Eman Naseer, Eyman Fatima, Sadaf Shamas, Saira Jabeen, Shawaal Zulfiqar and Gull Feroza. Feroza enters the tournament after being named the best wicketkeeper-batter at Pakistan’s recent National Women’s T20 Tournament. Nashra Sundhu leads the bowling attack, supported by spinners Momina Riasat, Tuba Hassan and Umm-e-Hani. Tasmia Rubab and Waheeda Akhtar provide the pace options.
Pakistan recently claimed bronze at the Asian Games. Thailand won the previous edition, while this year’s tournament expands from eight teams to ten.
