FIA and Formula 1 are evaluating a new rear‑light system that could appear as early as the Canadian Grand Prix, confirming reports from Spain’s SoyMotor. The idea involves purple, blue and yellow lights that activate according to the car’s energy deployment status, giving following drivers clearer information about sudden slowdowns or major speed differences. The lights would illuminate only when the electrical component of the power unit is not delivering maximum energy, and they would also trigger if battery charge is lower than the previous lap or in cases of superclipping.
The proposal has been welcomed by drivers and could become operational for the May 24 weekend. The objective is to prevent incidents like the one involving Oliver Bearman at Suzuka, where he went off track while avoiding Franco Colapinto’s Alpine amid a 45 km/h speed delta. Further details are expected in the coming days as discussions progress.
