Imola waits as Abu Dhabi stalls

Imola has emerged as the leading alternative to Abu Dhabi for the 6 December Formula 1 season finale, with the Middle East situation casting doubt on the ability to race safely at Yas Marina. The Italian venue has already outlined a complete contingency plan: a midday start to avoid low temperatures and early winter sunset, hotel bookings made by several teams, and a race title mirroring 2025’s Gran Premio del Made in Italy e dell’Emilia‑Romagna.

Discussions with Liberty Media and Formula 1 have been extensive, leaving Imola confident yet still waiting. The stalemate stems from Abu Dhabi’s reluctance to withdraw, as contractual obligations require the Emirati organisers to formally renounce the event. For now, Abu Dhabi continues selling hospitality packages and maintains it can host the race. Liberty Media and FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem prefer not to apply pressure, meaning Imola’s hopes hinge entirely on Abu Dhabi’s decision to step aside.
