Technical issues once again disrupted Formula 1 activity at the Singapore Grand Prix, where Sprint Qualifying was affected by timing system problems.
The Marina Bay circuit has long been known for occasional difficulties involving data transmission, radio communications and timing services because of interference in the surrounding urban environment. The 2026 edition proved no exception.
A longer-than-expected break between SQ1 and SQ2 was required as officials worked to resolve the issue. The most significant consequence involved Gabriel Bortoleto, whose lap time was initially not recorded despite being quick enough to secure progression into the next phase. After the error was identified, the Brazilian was reinstated. No further timing-related incidents were reported during SQ2 or SQ3, allowing the remainder of Sprint Qualifying to run as scheduled.
For now, Formula 1 appears to have contained the problem, hoping that timing system issues have been fully resolved.
