2026 World Cup an unprecedented financial success

The 2026 World Cup is closing with historic financial results, as FIFA prepares to announce record revenues expected to reach $15 billion, roughly €13 billion, far above initial projections of €9.6 billion. According to The Guardian, two commercial drivers fuelled the surge: the booming secondary ticket market, where FIFA collects a 15% fee from both buyer and seller, and the premium hospitality sector, including VIP areas and exclusive suites.

The financial windfall is set to bolster FIFA’s political landscape, with increased funding likely flowing to national federations. This, the report notes, further consolidates President Gianni Infantino’s influence, with around 200 federations reportedly ready to support his re‑election. The tournament’s success also revives speculation about a future U.S. bid, with the 2038 host still undecided. While Morocco‑Spain‑Portugal will stage 2030 and Saudi Arabia 2034, the United States could emerge as a strong contender once again.
