Ajax beat Betis in race for Amrabat

Ajax have secured the signing of Sofyan Amrabat, beating Real Betis to the highly sought‑after midfielder. The 28‑year‑old joins the Dutch giants on a free transfer after leaving Fenerbahce and has signed a contract running until 30 June 2028.

The move had been in motion for several months, with Amrabat revealing he stayed in regular contact with sporting director Jordi Cruyff since April. Ajax’s persistence paid off, allowing them to land a player who had become a priority target for Betis as the Spanish club searched for midfield reinforcements.

Amrabat’s arrival adds experience, physicality and tactical discipline to Ajax’s engine room as the club continue reshaping their squad under new leadership. His decision to choose Amsterdam over Seville marks a significant boost for Ajax, who have been active throughout the summer window. The Moroccan international now begins a new chapter in the Eredivisie, aiming to re‑establish himself as a key figure in European football.
