Djurgarden break fifth‑tier transfer record to land Abdulmalik

Djurgarden have completed a bold move by signing Abdul Abdulmalik from National League side Boreham Wood, paying £1.5 million to secure the 23‑year‑old forward. The fee sets a new transfer record for England’s fifth tier, surpassing the £1 million Leicester City spent on Jamie Vardy in 2012. Djurgarden, currently fifth in Allsvenskan but with games in hand, believe Abdulmalik can strengthen their bid for a top‑three finish and European football when the season ends in November.

Abdulmalik enjoyed a breakout campaign last season, scoring 17 goals and supplying 10 assists, including a strike at Wembley in Boreham Wood’s play‑off final defeat. Despite interest from several English Football League clubs, he chose Sweden, saying he was ready for “the next challenge” and eager to prove his potential.

With paperwork still being completed, Abdulmalik did not feature in Djurgarden’s home match against reigning champions Mjallby on August 31.
