Alonso open to bringing Emi Martinez to Chelsea

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso is open to the idea of signing Emi Martinez, with the Aston Villa goalkeeper emerging as a realistic option as the club reassesses its plans. Chelsea have shown strong loyalty to Robert Sanchez, but internal conversations over the summer already included the possibility of adding an experienced keeper, and Martinez’s name was mentioned. His candidacy has resurfaced after Sanchez’s shaky display in the 3‑2 opening‑day win over Fulham.

Martinez is actively seeking a new club, and Villa are willing to let him leave for under £10 million, making the deal financially attractive. Chelsea had intended to rely on Sanchez as No.1 and 21‑year‑old Mike Penders as his understudy, but some within the club fear the risk of entering the season without another senior option. Martinez has also been offered to Saudi, MLS and Premier League sides, including Tottenham, as Chelsea weigh whether to act before the deadline.
