CAF has upheld Ampem Darkoa Ladies’ protest against Edo Queens

CAF has sided with Ampem Darkoa Ladies in their challenge of Edo Queens, wiping out the Nigerian club’s 4-1 penalty win in the WAFU Zone B qualifier for the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League. On 26 September 2026, CAF’s Organising Committee for Women’s Football found that penalties should never have been taken after the sides finished 2-2 in normal time. Competition rules require two 15-minute extra-time halves first.

The match, held on 5 September in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, skipped extra time and went straight to a shootout. CAF said the mistake stemmed from an administrative instruction and that neither team was at fault. Ampem Darkoa’s protest therefore succeeded. CAF refused a full replay, however, and ruled that the original 90 minutes still stand. The final will restart from 2-2 and move into extra time.

The sides will play two 15-minute periods. If the score is still level, a new penalty shootout will decide the winner. CAF has instructed that, as far as is practical and legal, the same conditions should apply player eligibility, disciplinary records, remaining substitutions, venue and officials. WAFU B will now set the date, kick-off time and venue in consultation with CAF and the two national associations.
