Roberto Mancini’s return to the Italy bench began with a setback, as Belgium claimed a 2–0 win in their Nations League opener at the Stadio Olimpico. The visitors dominated the first half, dictating tempo and deservedly going ahead on 20 minutes when Mika Godts carved through the defence with a double feint before finishing past Donnarumma. Italy improved just before the break, with Moise Kean narrowly missing from a Cambiaghi cross.

After halftime, the Azzurri took control, pinning Belgium deep and creating chances for Kean, Esposito and Cambiaghi, only to be repeatedly denied by an inspired Lammens. Their momentum was abruptly halted when Dodi Lukebakio unleashed a superb left‑footed strike from distance to seal the result.

Belgium had earlier threatened through De Ketelaere and forced a stunning double save from Donnarumma. Van Bommel’s side absorbed pressure and struck clinically, leaving Italy frustrated in Mancini’s first game back.
