Extreme heat warning for Colombia–Ghana

Kansas City has been placed under an “extreme heat warning” ahead of Friday’s World Cup last‑32 match between Colombia and Ghana. The 2026 tournament spans 16 host cities across the United States, Canada and Mexico, many of which are accustomed to severe summer heat. Weather has already affected the competition, with France enduring a two‑hour storm delay during their group game against Iraq.

The National Weather Service cautioned that heat index values could reach 105 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit, significantly increasing the risk of heat‑related illnesses. Kansas City, also a training base for Argentina, England, the Netherlands and Algeria, is expected to face several days of intense heat with little overnight relief.

Arrowhead Stadium will host Colombia versus Ghana under these conditions, prompting concerns for players, staff and supporters. The advisory remains in effect until Friday evening as the region prepares for a challenging stretch of extreme temperatures.
