Giroud says this season will “very probably” be his last

Olivier Giroud has admitted he is likely to retire at the end of the current campaign, telling L’Équipe that “as a player, it is very probably my last season.” The Lille forward, who turns 40 on Wednesday, said he is savoring every moment as he approaches the finish line of an extraordinary career. Giroud became France’s all‑time leading scorer during the 2022 World Cup before being overtaken by Kylian Mbappé earlier this year, ending his international journey with 57 goals in 137 appearances and a World Cup triumph in 2018.

His club résumé is equally decorated: league titles with Montpellier and AC Milan, four FA Cups, and a Champions League crown with Chelsea in 2021. Giroud began his professional path in 2006 with Grenoble and earned his final France cap in 2024. As he enters what appears to be his last season, he remains one of the game’s most respected veterans.
