'Gladbach sack manager after just three games

Borussia Mönchengladbach have made the first managerial change of the 2026‑27 Bundesliga season, dismissing Eugen Polanski on Sunday following a humiliating 5‑0 defeat to Freiburg. The loss capped a miserable start to the campaign, with Gladbach suffering three consecutive league defeats that left the team bottom of the table. Their only success under Polanski this season came in the DFB‑Pokal, where they cruised past Schott Mainz 5‑0 in the opening round.

League form, however, deteriorated rapidly with a 3‑0 defeat to RB Leipzig, a chaotic 4‑3 loss to Elversberg and Saturday’s collapse in Freiburg. Polanski had been promoted to the senior role in September 2025 after three years coaching the club’s reserves, but his tenure ends abruptly amid mounting pressure and poor performances. Gladbach now face Mainz on September 19 as they begin the search for stability and a new manager capable of reversing their early‑season slide.
