Medeama exit Champions League after Mazembe overpower Ghanaians

Medeama SC’s CAF Champions League journey ended on Saturday after a 3‑1 defeat to TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi sealed a 4‑1 aggregate loss in their preliminary‑round tie. Trailing by a goal from the first leg, the Ghanaian champions needed a strong start but instead fell behind in the 16th minute when Patrick Mwanungulu struck for Mazembe. The hosts doubled their lead eight minutes later through Kazema Baso, tightening their grip on the contest as Medeama struggled to respond before halftime.

Mazembe maintained control throughout the second period, and Mwanungulu’s second goal in the 78th minute effectively ended the tie. Dominic Amponsah pulled one back in the 87th minute, but the late consolation did little to alter the outcome. The defeat brings an early conclusion to Medeama’s continental hopes, leaving the club to refocus on defending their Ghana Premier League title as the domestic season approaches.
