Trailing by a goal from the first leg, the Ghanaian champions needed a strong start but instead fell behind in the 16th minute when Patrick Mwanungulu struck for Mazembe. The hosts doubled their lead eight minutes later through Kazema Baso, tightening their grip on the contest as Medeama struggled to respond before halftime.

Mazembe maintained control throughout the second period, and Mwanungulu’s second goal in the 78th minute effectively ended the tie. Dominic Amponsah pulled one back in the 87th minute, but the late consolation did little to alter the outcome.
