Neymar returns as Ancelotti names Brazil’s World Cup squad

Neymar has been recalled to Brazil’s squad for next month’s World Cup, with manager Carlo Ancelotti confirming the forward’s return after an injury‑hit spell that kept him out for most of the qualifying cycle. The 34‑year‑old, Brazil’s all‑time leading scorer, had not featured for the national team since 2023, but his recent run of games for Santos convinced the coaching staff he was ready. Speaking at a high‑profile squad unveiling in Rio de Janeiro, Ancelotti said Neymar’s selection was based strictly on fitness and form, noting his improved physical condition and consistent minutes.

The remainder of the squad closely mirrors the group used during qualifying, with Vinicius Junior, Raphinha, Matheus Cunha and Endrick forming the attacking core. Injuries ruled out Rodrygo, Eder Militao and Estevao, while Joao Pedro, Andrey Santos and Antony were omitted. Brazil begin their campaign on 13 June against Morocco, before facing Haiti and Scotland in Group C.
