Pocognoli appointed Scotland manager on initial two‑year deal

Former Monaco boss Sebastien Pocognoli has been named the new manager of Scotland, succeeding Steve Clarke after the team’s World Cup group‑stage exit. The Scottish FA confirmed that the 39‑year‑old Belgian has signed an initial two‑year contract and will guide the national side into the forthcoming UEFA Nations League. Pocognoli previously led Union Saint‑Gilloise to the 2024–25 Belgian title in his debut season as a head coach before moving to Monaco.

Calling the role an “honour,” he said he was immediately excited when first approached and highlighted the passion of Scotland’s supporters, recalling his experience facing them as a Belgium player in 2013. Pocognoli added that he and his staff will work to build on the foundations laid by Clarke, who stepped down following the World Cup. The appointment marks a new chapter for Scotland as they aim to maintain recent progress and strengthen their competitive identity under fresh leadership.
