Early in the second quarter, the Pacers led by 21 points. But, mistakes and a lacklustre defensive effort allowed the Hornets to rally and win the game in the closing minutes when it appeared like Indiana had regained control. A far cry from the opening of the game, when Indiana grabbed control early and established a 15-5 lead, spearheaded by Myles Turner, who had eight points in that period, Charlotte regained the lead for good on a 13-0 run in the fourth. With a 12-16 shooting percentage and 15 points from Turner, who went perfect at the charity stripe, the Pacers dominated the opening quarter.
T.J. McConnell scored 40 points in one period, giving Indiana an 18-point advantage. Early in the second, Oshae Brissett and Isaiah Jackson both increased Indiana's advantage to 21 as they proceeded to make free throws. Jackson in particular stood out for his outstanding rebounding performance.
