Baartman sidelined for Australia ODIs with hamstring setback

South Africa have suffered a fresh blow to their pace stocks, ruling out Ottneil Baartman from the upcoming ODI series against Australia due to a left hamstring injury. Cricket South Africa confirmed the setback on Sunday, announcing that Duan Jansen — who impressed on debut in Namibia with figures of 4‑31 — will replace him and join the squad on September 19 in Durban.

Baartman had not featured in the ongoing ODI series against Namibia, South Africa’s first one‑day assignment since their India tour last year, but he recently returned to domestic action with Dolphins in the CSA 4‑Day Series.

His comeback was short‑lived, as he bowled only five overs before being withdrawn, prompting CSA’s medical update. South Africa are already without Kagiso Rabada, while Gerald Coetzee has been recalled and Anrich Nortje remains unavailable. The three‑match Australia series runs from September 24 to 30 across Durban, Johannesburg and Potchefstroom.
