Jatinder Singh named skipper for Oman for T20 World Cup

Jatinder Singh has been officially selected to lead the Omani squad, with wicketkeeper-batter Vinayak Shukla appointed as his official deputy. In a significant decision, the selectors excluded forty-three-year-old veteran Aamir Kaleem, despite his stellar performance at the earlier T20 Asia Cup. According to reports from ESPNcricinfo, Oman has implemented five distinct changes to their Asia Cup lineup to effectively bolster the roster.

The refreshed squad now features all-rounders Wasim Ali, Karan Sonavale, and Jay Odedra, joined by seamers Shafiq Jan and Jiten Ramanandi. Ramanandi, Odedra, and Wasim bring experience from the T20 World Cup qualifiers, whereas Shafiq and Sonavale recently debuted in the Asia Cup Rising Stars. Although Jatinder missed the 2024 T20 World Cup, he remains their leading run-scorer and now takes charge as skipper. Oman competes in Group B alongside 2021 champions Australia, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, and Ireland, scheduling their critical opening match against Zimbabwe set for February 9.
