Former Proteas head coach Russell Domingo has signed a two-year contract to lead English county Hampshire, starting in 2026. He replaces long-time associate Adi Birrell and will be assisted by former Scotland coach Shane Burger and club legend Jimmy Adams. Uniquely, Domingo will retain his head coach role at the DP World Lions, capitalizing on the limited South African domestic schedule to fulfill both commitments.
Domingo brings immense experience, including a Test series victory in Australia with South Africa, a tenure with Bangladesh, and significant recent silverware with the Lions across Four-Day and T20 formats. He praised Hampshire’s ambition and facilities at the Utilita Bowl.
The schedule aligns perfectly: the South African season ends on March 29, just days before Hampshire’s campaign begins on April 3. This dual responsibility underscores Domingo’s coaching pedigree, ensuring he remains a pivotal figure in both South African and English cricket structures for the future.
