Mitchell Santner has been sidelined for at least a month after New Zealand Cricket confirmed he suffered a grade‑three ACL shoulder injury. The all‑rounder was ruled out of the one‑off Test against Ireland and the opening Test of the England series following fresh scans conducted after his return home. Santner sustained the injury while fielding for Mumbai Indians in their IPL clash with Chennai Super Kings on 23 April, landing awkwardly as he attempted a catch and also striking his head on the ground.
MI immediately replaced him with Shardul Thakur as a concussion substitute, and Santner was later seen with an ice pack on his shoulder. He subsequently flew back to New Zealand, with Keshav Maharaj taking his place in the Mumbai squad. The Ireland Test begins on 27 May, followed by England from 4 June at Lord’s, before New Zealand head to the Caribbean for white‑ball fixtures in July.
