Cloud9 were seeking yet another strong start to a LOL Championship Series split

The defending LCS champions Cloud9 were hoping for yet another solid start to a split but NRG Esports came out swinging in the last matchday of week two, defeating Cloud9 and ending their unbeaten run.

After winning five straight games to start this split, C9 went into their match against NRG on June 23 feeling confident, but they were surprised by a team hungry for their second victory of the year. Despite not getting first blood in the top lane, C9 easily captured two swift dragons. However, NRG's fast victories in mid-lane team fights turned the tide of the match against the ladder leaders. Together, Cristian "Palafox" Palafox and Niship "Dhokla" Doshi on Jayce and Azir destroyed the C9’s outer structures. Without map control, C9 was compelled to play catch-up from the base, enabling NRG to sweep up important objectives and push as a group, leading to a last stand for the unbeaten squad aiming to maintain their streak.
