League of Legends is testing a major control change, introducing WASD movement as an alternative to its traditional mouse point-and-click system. Aimed at making movement more intuitive for new and returning players, the feature is being trialed on the PBE. If well-received, it will roll out to non-Ranked queues first before eventually reaching Ranked play.
Both WASD and point-and-click controls will remain available, with Riot closely monitoring to ensure neither provides a competitive edge. This flexibility allows players to choose the style that best suits their comfort and playstyle. For esports, the shift is unlikely to cause immediate changes, as pros are expected to stick with traditional controls. Given the already high button usage for abilities, spells, and camera movement, WASD could feel like a natural addition rather than a radical overhaul of League’s gameplay.
