Aubameyang ends Gabon career after feeling ‘humiliated’

Pierre‑Emerick Aubameyang has announced his retirement from Gabon’s national team, saying he felt “humiliated” by how he was treated following the country’s disappointing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign. According to Mundo Deportivo, the 37‑year‑old was dropped after Gabon’s group‑stage elimination, which ended with three consecutive defeats, before later being reinstated. Aubameyang said the decision damaged his reputation, stressing he had played the tournament while injured.

“They humiliated me and tarnished my image,” he reportedly told the outlet, adding that the experience convinced him to walk away from international football. Aubameyang leaves as Gabon’s all‑time top scorer, departing at a moment of deep crisis for the national team.

He insisted the country’s issues extend far beyond his own role, placing responsibility on the federation and leaving newly appointed coach Sébastien Migne to rebuild without his most iconic player.
