Youri Baas is now expected to remain at Ajax after transfer talks with FC Porto collapsed late Monday night, according to reports in the Netherlands. VI’s Tim van Duijn revealed that Porto submitted several proposals for the 23‑year‑old defender, but none satisfied Ajax’s management, led by Jordi Cruyff, prompting the Portuguese club to withdraw from negotiations early in the morning. The interest had been strong enough for Baas to start on the bench during Ajax’s 4‑0 win at Telstar, a decision manager Míchel Sanchez admitted was linked to ongoing discussions.
Sanchez said he would prefer to keep Baas, praising his “Ajax DNA”, though he acknowledged a departure had been possible. Baas, last season’s Ajax Player of the Year, was open to reuniting with Francesco Farioli at Porto, but with Frankfurt’s interest cooling and time running out in the window, sources now consider a move highly unlikely. Baas remains under contract until 2028.
