Benfica’s goal machine: Pavlidis leads a record-breaking start

Benfica are enjoying a spectacular start to the season, establishing themselves as one of Europe’s most prolific attacking sides. Their latest four-goal display against Omonia brought their tally to 53 goals in 17 matches, just one short of the club’s historic benchmark set under Sven-Göran Eriksson in 1989-90.

Marco Silva’s arrival has transformed the Portuguese giants following a disappointing previous campaign. Despite beginning their season early because of European commitments, Benfica have maintained an impressive scoring rate since their opening defeat against St. Gallen in July.

Pavlidis has been central to their resurgence, registering 16 goals and four assists. Gianluca Prestianni has also emerged as a major contributor, with nine goals to his name.

Convincing victories, including a 7-0 thrashing of Casa Pia and a 6-1 triumph over Hearts, underline Benfica’s attacking firepower. Although Porto remain ahead domestically, the Eagles have plenty of time to close the gap and challenge for silverware.
