Iñigo Pérez has reached 100 matches as a La Liga manager

Iñigo Pérez has reached 100 matches as a La Liga manager, joining an exclusive group of young coaches to achieve the milestone. The 38-year-old marked the occasion with Villarreal’s 2-1 derby victory over Valencia, as his side continues to build momentum after a difficult start to the season.

Pérez arrived at Villarreal during the summer after making his name at Rayo Vallecano. Taking charge in February 2024, he guided the Madrid club to safety before securing an impressive eighth-place finish and European qualification. His final campaign included another eighth-place finish and a Conference League final, where Rayo lost to Crystal Palace.

His overall La Liga record stands at 31 wins, 35 draws and 34 defeats. At 38 years, nine months and six days, Pérez reached the landmark younger than Pep Guardiola, Rafael Benítez and Luis Enrique.

Villarreal’s hierarchy will hope his progress can establish a successful new era at the club.
