Ajax and Bayern to inaugurate Nairobi's Raila Odinga stadium

Ajax and Bayern Munich will contest the inaugural match at Kenya's new national stadium, the Raila Odinga International Stadium in Nairobi, both clubs confirmed Wednesday. The showcase is set for January 5, 2027.

Also known as Talanta Sports Stadium, the 60,000-seat venue has been under construction since 2024 and will serve as Kenya's national stadium for football and rugby, including fixtures at the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ajax called the invitation an honour and a serious test during the Eredivisie winter break, saying organizers view the clash between six-time and four-time Champions League winners as a major East African event.

Bayern board member Rouven Kasper said Africa holds huge football passion, adding the fixture strengthens ties with millions of African Bayern fans and extends the club's international presence.
