Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany was taken to hospital on Friday after collapsing while watching a training session, the German club confirmed.
The Belgian coach, who had reportedly been battling a viral infection in recent days, suddenly felt unwell while observing the club’s reserve team and required immediate medical attention.
In an official statement, Bayern said Kompany would undergo comprehensive examinations and remain under medical supervision. His coaching staff will temporarily oversee training sessions and match preparations while he receives treatment.
The incident comes at a busy stage of the season for the Bundesliga leaders, who drew 2-2 at home against Arsenal in the Champions League earlier this week.
Bayern are scheduled to travel to Freiburg, with uncertainty surrounding Kompany’s availability for the fixture. The club has not yet released further information about his condition or indicated when he might return to the touchline.
