Feyenoord director Robert Eenhoorn has disclosed why the Dutch club rejected Al Ittihad’s record-breaking bid for Algerian winger Anis Hadj Moussa during the summer transfer window.
The Saudi side reportedly offered €42.5 million for the forward, who was keen to leave Rotterdam. However, Feyenoord refused to approve the deadline-day transfer after requesting a bank guarantee that never materialised.
Speaking to ESPN, Eenhoorn revealed that the initial proposal allocated just 10 per cent of the total fee to the first instalment, a detail that immediately raised concerns about the deal’s reliability. He therefore questioned the seriousness of Al Ittihad’s approach.
Meanwhile, Feyenoord also retained right-back Givairo Read despite reported interest from Roma. The club believes the youngster still has significant potential.
Both players have since remained influential, helping Feyenoord lead the Eredivisie standings this season.
