Infantino claims overwhelming support and tells critics to move on

Gianni Infantino has dismissed calls for his resignation, pointing to widespread backing from FIFA member associations following the collapse of the FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal.

Speaking to the BBC, the FIFA president argued that disagreements are inevitable but insisted that the views of the majority must be respected. His comments come after Asian football chief Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa endorsed his bid for a fourth term, joining support from African associations.

The abandoned proposal, which aimed to attract private investment into a new entity managing commercial rights linked to major FIFA competitions, previously triggered criticism from several confederations.

Although Infantino apologised for how the initiative was handled, European associations including England and Germany remain unconvinced. The 56-year-old is seeking to remain in office until 2031. Candidates must submit nominations by November 18, leaving FIFA's member associations to determine the organisation's future leadership.
