Danish champions AGF have terminated their sponsorship agreement with WindowMaster International A/S following controversial remarks by company representative Oscar Boyter concerning pyrotechnics at football matches.
In comments posted on Facebook, Boyter suggested that sponsorship funds could cover fines imposed on AGF for pyrotechnics and indicated that the company’s continued support could depend on the club’s efforts to tackle their use.
AGF rejected the proposal, insisting that covering such penalties was never part of the agreement and would contradict the club’s principles. The club subsequently confirmed the immediate termination of the partnership.
The controversy has also prompted AGF chairman Lars Fournais to resign from his position as chairman of WindowMaster International A/S, effective immediately. Fournais reiterated the club’s firm opposition to pyrotechnics, describing their use as illegal and damaging to Danish football.
AGF are scheduled to host Viborg FF tonight.
