Chelsea had shown signs of improvement after a dismal start to the season, winning their next two Premier League games against Burnley and Fulham, and then tying the score impressively at 2-2 with Arsenal. Nevertheless, Brentford humiliated the Blues with a triumph at Stamford Bridge for the third time in a row since being promoted to the top division.
Ethan Pinnock, a defender, gave Brentford the lead with a powerful header in the 58th minute. Later Bryan Mbeumo added a second goal on a counterattack in stoppage time, further infuriating them. Chelsea's fourth loss of the year dropped them to 11th place with 12 points from 10 games, which is hardly the kind of result the team was hoping for after spending a lot of money on new players. With their second straight victory, Brentford now leads Chelsea with 13 points.
