Cole Palmer's four goals at Stamford Bridge dealt a severe shock to a struggling Everton team, inspiring Chelsea to a resounding 6-0 triumph. The offensive midfielder scored twice in the first eighteen minutes, the first on a lovely curling attempt from outside the area and the second on a close-range rebound. It did not take long for him to settle into the game.
After a major mistake by Jordan Pickford, the England international scored his third goal of the game just before the half-hour mark, and Nicolas Jackson made it four goals just before halftime. Naturally, the pace slowed down a bit after the half, but Chelsea still managed to score a fifth when Palmer scored from the penalty spot following James Tarkowski's foul on Noni Madueke. Prior to the penalty being scored, however, there was a disagreement between Jackson and Madueke over who would take it.
