Chiesa left out of Liverpool’s UEFA list

Federico Chiesa’s difficult spell at Liverpool has taken another hit, as Andoni Iraola has left him out of the club’s Champions League squad for the 2026/27 season. The decision, also affecting Wataru Endo, immediately reignites questions about the former Juventus winger’s future. Chiesa faced a similar exclusion last year before being reinstated due to Giovanni Leoni’s serious injury, but this time arrives after weeks of limited involvement and no official debut under Iraola.

Despite expressing confidence in the new project and willingness to adapt to different roles, Chiesa has struggled to convince. Pre‑season tests as a central striker produced mixed signals, while competition on the wings has intensified with Munoz’s arrival and Iraola’s trust in youngster Ngumoha.

The exclusion carries weight beyond Europe, signalling Chiesa’s current place in Liverpool’s hierarchy. Although he could be added later, the situation highlights how far the Italian has slipped in a squad undergoing reconstruction.
